Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) is a company that supplies drinking water and wastewater services to most of Wales and parts of western England.
The program consisted of cleaning 8.9 km of potable water mains in two operations, both of which were undertaken at night to minimise the impact on customers. Ice pigging was selected for these sections as a trial for DCWW to see the benefits of the process first hand.
Water prior to the pig followed by ice with retained material from the pipe wall followed by clear material after pigging.
Ice Pigging World Record
The longest single ice pigging run of 4,500m was achieved. This project highlights the advantages of Ice Pigging over conventional methods, having cleaned 8,900m in just 7 hours and removed 53,46kg of sediment, saving both money and time for Welsh Water.
