Ice Pigging was chosen to clean 2.5km of a cement lined ductile iron pipe that
provides water to 9,000 customers of Mynydd Llandygai and surrounding areas in
Ice Pigging was chosen instead of swabbing as a lower risk pipe cleaning solution to remove the historic built up of sediment in parts of the Welsh Water network.
A build-up of manganese and iron was present in 4 lengths of water main. Due to inaccessibility of the areas traditional cleaning methods were likely to prove very difficult.
The objective of the project was to improve the quality of tap water and reduce turbidity and discolouration while at the same time, ensure the immediate return of the water mains to service in order to minimise any disruption to their customers.
Ice Pigging was used to clean a drinking water pipe with the objective of cleaning the mains and providing measurable results to demonstrate the success of the process.
Ice Pigging was used to improve water quality by removing sediment and biofilm build up.
After several successful pilot Ice Pigging trials, Oasen decided to use Ice Pigging to clean the water mains network in Zwijndrecht.
