"Very Impressive" Richard Clay, Senior Solutions Engineer, Severn Trent Water.
the project - wastewater
Ice Pigging was used to clean 1184m of a pumped sewer pipe. Severn Trent were keen to see how effective Ice Pigging would be compared to replacement of water mains, or other common sewer cleaning methods.
Severn Trent Water, based in Coventry, are a water company who supply water and wastewater services to around 4.3 million homes and businesses across the Midlands and mid-Wales.
A sewage wet-well kept overflowing due to the high amount of sediment and waste that had accumulated in the pipe. This meant that Severn Trent had to use a waste tanker and pump the waste away every few days. Over time, this had become expensive and inconvenient as well as a major disturbance for the public. If the pipe could not be cleaned, it would be have to be replaced meaning significant costs.
